Tough night for Route du Rhum skippers: Collisions, keels falling off & damage. STOP PRESS
With strong wind conditions last night, now the front has passed through, winds have dropped, but still peaking at 40 knots, big confused seas. No Skippers were injured they are all safe. Read on for round up of the nights racing. Several skippers announced their retirement due to damage.
- 23.30 Ultimate Class trimaran Sodebo collided with a cargo ship close to Ushant shipping lanes. Starboard float damaged and heading for Roscoff.
- 23.25 Class 40 Team Sabrosa SR40 Mrk 2 - François Angoulevant lost his keel. Taken off by helicopter around 02.00.
- 23.25 Class 40 Cap West - Marc Lepesqueux also lost his keel is heading for Guernsey
- 23.00 Multi 50: Maitre Jacques - Loïc Fequet one of his floats had broken off just in front of his crossbeam in around 30 knots of wind.
- 20.00 Class 40: Serenis Consulting -Jean Galfione collided with an unlit buoy off Bréhat. He is now enroute to Saint-Quay Portrieux with hull damage.
- Rhum Class: Linedit'h - Bob Escoffier retired due to damage & heading to to Roscoff.
- Rum Class: Krit'R V - Benjamin Hardouin retired due to damage & heading to to Roscoff.
- Class 40: Teamwork40 - Bertrand Delesne is in Perros Guirec port.
- Class 40: Fantastica - Giancarlo Pedote has turned around.
- Rhum Class: Paris-Asia.com - Ricardo Diniz has returned to St Malo with 70 litres diesel spillage
